Val di Noto, one of the baroque cities

This small, southern town was rebuilt in the 1700s following the 1693 earthquake that decimated eastern Sicily. It is the heart of the valley of Sicilian Baroque and also the starting point. The cathedral is also a perfect example of Baroque revival, having been rebuilt after 10 years of hard work. Whole towns like Caltagirone and Militello in Val di Catania were rebuilt according to the Baroque style after 1693. A visit to Val di Noto in the south-east is a must on any tour of Sicily.
